Poetic beauty AThe client has known this designer for a long time ago. He asked Mr. Chou to design his new apartment even before this apartment took shape. They were having a conversation about modern bath fixtures and this casual chatting led to the new idea for this apartment . They mentioned German brand-name Duravit's Starck series, and eventually a Laufen set came out to be their favorite design. This apartment uses this Laufen series and its geometrical pattern – a circle, to further extend to other parts of the space. The circle has been taken as an element of design and directly gives the impression of a rather pop style interior with a simple ambience. Details as the crucial elements of design This apartment has two levels with a circular staircase to link them. The first floor is the public space while the second is designated for family only. The client agreed that the best interior for his family would have the least embellishments in both decoration and color, Chou gave the whole apartment a tranquil impression of intimacy. The floor is paved with Italian cavity stone plates and this simple tectonics is spread all over this apartment while each individual room has a specific feature of the spatial details. Details are the most crucial element of this design; whenever one walks into the space, he finds interesting details to appreciate. In the lobby space stands a wall full of light with its surface was covered with a thin plate of stone. Beside this wall, there is mirrored partition and a storage space hidden behind the heavy partition. In the living space one finds several geometrical bodies extending from the floor upward to the ceiling while slightly detached from the top of the ceiling. These odd gaps create a surreal fantasy and create an impression of visual transparency. The fine furniture set in this space look as if they are art works in a museum. These elements are more than utilitarian pieces, rather they are elements that wake up people's emotion. Staircase: a modern metaphor The circular staircase is definitely the visual focus of the apartment; with its dynamic beauty, it should certainly be considered a masterpiece in steel and glass technology. A white cylinder column supports the staircase and it gradually winds up in a spiral rhythm. It lands on the second floor and joins continuously with a translucent glass wall. Elements in this stair like the handrail and treads are carefully crafted in a very high quality. They are formed into this staircase and make it like a fine sculptural piece. An illuminated stone wall and stair deserve their most eye-catching attention. While one expands horizontally with the sturdy power of domination the other is a tension filled vertical element. Chou believes that a good designer role is to support the client. He only offers his professional opinion and makes his client's dreams come true. While being a good professional, a designer also needs to have good taste in aesthetics as this is a character trait that guarantees a successful relationship with his client. ?
